The flag was in place along with the start and finish line.  The entire course was set and ready.  Signs, water, support people were all in place along the route.  IMG_0014

The bag pipers made their way to the starting area.   IMG_0025

Hundreds of runners and walkers made their way to the starting line.  IMG_0020

Great words were spoken about Moose by Commander Keefe and people that knew him.

And then the race began.  And as the hundreds of participants made their way out of site, to start returning a short time later…..IMG_0019

Jim Wildman and I took 5 minutes to catch our breath before everyone began to return from the run.  This is our 2nd “ah ha ” moment on race days.

Jim and I are on the Holyoke Saint Patty’s race committee.  Jim and Brian Donoghue are co-chairmen of the Holyoke St. Patty’s race committee.  They had done a lot of work with Jed, Jen and their committee for the Rally For Moose Run.  I got the call to help from Brian when he found out he was going to be out of town on this weekend.

Jim puts in tremendous time and effort putting courses together and getting them set up.  Also Jim became a father for the first time about 5 weeks ago (a son named Connor) and was running on about 1 1/2 hours sleep when he showed up race morning.  “Congrats to you dad”.  But this was the “ah ha” moment when we have done all we can and the race is underway.

Read about the race, the runners, the volunters, the sponsors and the great event that happened that day in honor of Lt. Col. Morris “Moose” Fontenot.  There are many pictures to see and people to meet in the next few entries, so read on.
