This is what I’ve missed the most while not running a race in almost 2 months—the great people who you get to meet and hang around with while you are doing something you love..Â
Mark and Charlie are a father son team running the race. Mark is a Marine and I think one of the great things about running is that age has no bearing and you can enjoy a sport with your kids.Â
Julie, Susan, Sharon and Donna are proof that family–and friends– can enjoy a race day.  In doing a lot of races each year you also start seeing people who you recognize from races, but you’re not sure where. Donna and I spent many parts of our conversation going over the races we’ve done and which one we might know each other from.
I am always excited to meet people who are at their first race. Suzanna and Cynthia were doing just that on Saturday. They came and ran better than they had anticipated. I told them that the combination means “we gotcha” and “welcome to our world”. A perfect day for two friends.
John is a marine who was stationed in San Diego and has just 6 months ago come to New England. I had to make sure he knew his first winter here was nice but not to be expected next year. Â
The race was a great race for a great cause and all that came enjoyed their time in South Boston. For me it was the feeling of a race day and the people who I’ve been missing for almost 2 months. “Thank you” to those that came and a special “Thank You” to all those in the armed forces for your service to all of us.

Hi Al,
It was great to meet you at the race. Charlie and I enjoyed the race. I think we will be doing many more together. Thanks for posting our photo.
